Meet our new intern

Posted by: | Comments (0)

My name is Robert and I’m the newest intern at Monar Consulting. I’m originally from Chicago, and received my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Philosophy at Northeastern Illinois University. I’m currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Elmhurst College and hope to be completed by Summer 2012. What really drew me into the field was the ability to apply science into something so common in everyday life, work! In my free time I enjoy biking, playing sports, meeting with friends, and exercising.

1. What was your childhood nickname, and why?

My childhood nickname was “sharky.” The meaning for this nickname came from two different purposes, first, I think sharks are neat (see question 5), and secondly, my last name is pronounced “Sharek” in Polish, which sounds a lot like shark.

2. What do you like to munch on at the movie theater?

I definitely like sweet candy. Anything like Skittles, Sour Patch Kids, or Milk Duds get the job done in the movie theater.

3. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I’ve always wanted to be a basketball player growing up. I’ve probably realistically pursued this dream until I was about 13 years old, spending most of my afternoons playing basketball with friends, at parks, or in tournaments.

4. Who has inspired you the most in your life, and why?

I’d have to say my sister. She’s about three years older than me, so she somewhat paved the road for me during my teenage years. She showed me the hard work it takes to succeed and reach your goals, and I really thank her for that.

5. If you were an animal, what would you be?

If I could be any animal, I’d definitely be a shark. It’s a no-brainer, since the earth is covered by more water than land, I would have much more area to swim in. In addition, one great perquisite would be sitting high in the food chain list, which is very awesome in-itself.

Meet Another New Team Member

Posted by: | Comments (0)

My name is Hailey Fugman and I just started interning at Monar Consulting today. I currently am pursing my M.A. in I/O psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Here is a bit of information for you to get to know me better: I grew up in Vancouver, Canada, and like many other Canadians learned to ski as soon as I could walk.  When I was five years old I would any answer to the name rainbow, but as I grew up the majority of my friends called me by different forms of my last name: Fugs, Fuggie, and many more. At the movie theater I love too much on popcorn, but often lose self-control and finish the bag before the previews end. When I was young I wanted to be a marine biologist because I thought that there would be no better job in the world than playing with dolphins all day. Speaking of dolphins, if I could be an animal I would probably choose to be one; they are playful and have bonds that I don’t see in other animals.

The person who has inspired me most in my life is my late Grandmother, she gave me the passion to travel and taught me that education is not only what we learn in books but what we learn though life experience. She also gave me the confidence to pursue goals and taught me that as long as I am willing to put in the work I can achieve whatever I want.

Meet the new member of our team!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello everyone! My name is Andrea and I am a new intern at Monar Consulting. I’m currently finishing up my first year at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology studies Industrial Organization Psychology. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology.  I tend to be rather quiet and reserved upon meeting people but once I’ve gotten to know you, watch out! I’m very nerdy and quirky with a passion for laughter.  Here is a little insight into my life.

1. What was your childhood nickname, and why?

When I was a child my younger brother used to call me “Sis,” like sister. It primarily came about because he had a hard time pronouncing my name, and it just stuck. It never really bother me until he was well into elementary school, and clearly knew how to say my name, that I was forced to ignore him until he broke his habit of calling me “Sis” instead of Andrea.

2. What do you like to munch on at the movie theater?

When I am at the movie theater I like to munch on something sweet… and that is preferably chocolate. I have a sweet tooth with a mind of its own, so no matter what the situation (movie theater or not) I will have these unrelenting cravings for chocolate. In the event there is no chocolate within a half-mile radius I will usually settle on a stick of gum.

3. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a performer most specifically a singer. However after being involved in school choir for over 4 year I suddenly developed a severe case of stage freight and I’ve never looked back.
4. Who has inspired you the most in your life, and why?

My grandma has inspired me the most. She was such a wonderful person who saw people as they are without judgment. I think that quality can be really hard to find, so I strive to be like she was by maintaining an open mind and heart free of judgment. I think that quality has allowed to me meet a lot of people that I would not have normally had a change to know.

5. If you were an animal, what would you be?

I would most definitively be a cat, if I were an animal. I love cats and it is my secret dream to grow old and have a house full of cats.

Meet Greg

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello everyone,

My name is Greg Turner.  I graduated from Florida International University in Miami, Florida with my B.A. in Psychology.  I am in the last semester of my Industrial / Organizational Psychology Master’s degree at Roosevelt University.  I am interested in selection and psychological assessments.  My goal is to graduate by this summer and begin looking for my first “big boy” job.

I was born in Great Falls, Montana but I was raised and spent most of my life in South Florida. I recently moved to Chicago to pursue my graduate studies.  I am enjoying the city so far and there is so much I still haven’t done yet.

Question Quickfire

What is your childhood nickname & why?

My little brother used to call me “Deg” because he couldn’t pronounce the “grr” sound.  So my whole family started calling me Deg.

What do you like to munch on at the movie theater?

I generally don’t snack at the movie theater.  But, a diet coke and Reese’s pieces.  What is better than peanut butter and chocolate together?

Who has inspired you the most in life and why?

One of my best friends Jason hands down.  He has overcome so many obstacles in life and was never given anything for free.   He is currently applying to residencies to finish medical school.  He has inspired me to never give up and always stay focused even when faced with distractions.

If you were an animal, what would it be?

I would be a bison.  They are stoic, deceptively intelligent, and generally don’t rock the boat.  Only problem is, I like meat.  So, I must be a carnivorous bison!

Meet Jennifer!

Posted by: | Comments (0)
Heyyy yo!  I’m Jennifer, but friends call me Jenn (with two n’s) and I am an undergraduate studying Learning and Organizational Change at Northwestern University.  I am pursuing a minor in Global Health Studies, and an Integrated Marketing and Communications Certificate.
I hail from the great land of Cincinnati, Ohio and will always have an allegiance to the Buckeyes.  I prefer winter to summer because I like the snow and to ski, but most of all…I like coats.  Whereas stereotypically most girls have a large collection of shoes or purses…half of my closet is devoted to coats and jackets.  My livestrong bracelet never leaves my left wrist, and neither does my Swiss Army watch.
I am petrified of spiders, big or small.  And I am a bit scared of cats–I can only sing when alone in the shower.  I like clam chowder with no clams.  I’m not big on seafood.  Which is why I’ll be a cheap date.  I like the smell of tennis balls and the sound of rain.  I recently got over my addiction to playing Euchre online.
I believe in a better world and that we can work together to get there.  I like to learn about people, their quirks, their passions and their dreams.  I’d like to pursue non-profit consulting with grassroots health organizations.
Question Quickfire
What is your childhood nickname & why?
“Jeff”–when my mom was angry with me, she’d yell “JEEFFFEERRRR” and skip the entire middle of my name.  My friends shortened this to Jeff.
What do you like to munch on at the movie theater?
Sour Patch Kids, illegal blueberries that I sneak in, or Popcorn with melted Reese’s Cups.
Who has inspired you the most in life and why?
I can’t pinpoint a specific person that has had the most influence on my life.  I am inspired by all of my friends, and continue to be inspired by people that I meet–and people that I haven’t met that are doing amazing things.
If you were an animal, what would you be?
I have always wanted to be a panda bear.  When I was younger, my favorite food was bamboo because that is what pandas ate.  My mother picked up on this, and told me that pandas ate spinach, vegetables, etc.  Why a panda?  No logical reason…I just think they are adorable.

Meet Christy

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello everyone!! My name is Christy and I am a second year Business Psychology M.A. student at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. After spending three years at Purdue University,   I received my A.A. of Psychology from Southwestern Michiagan college in 2006 and a B.A. of Psychology from Indiana University South Bend in 2009.

A curious person by nature, I love learning about anything and everything from most anybody. I enjoy taking on new challenges and turning them into adventures, always searching for the lessons within. I consider myself to be very upbeat (sometimes silly, but always fun-loving!) and prefer to focus on the positive, though I do not ignore the less-than-positives. I have a broad range of interests including: executive coaching, change management and employee motivation in the world of business and indulge in other hobbies such as, photography, reading, and spending time with family and friends in the world of Christy.

Born in Elkhart, IN and raised in Edwardsburg, MI, I have been living in Chicago since October and am slowly becoming familiar with the area. I enjoy exploring the city and am always open to suggestions of where to go next!

I am excited to be a part of the Monar crew and am looking forward to all the experiences to come!

 Question Quickfire

What is your childhood nickname & why?

Childhood friends referred to me as “Bubbles” due to my bubbly personality J

What do you like to munch on at the movie theater?

One of my favorite movie-theater candies is Sour Patch kids, though I am a sucker for Gobstoppers as well. However, buttered popcorn will always be king in my book.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

As a young girl, I was certain that I would grow up to be either a back-up dancer for Madonna, Paula Abdul, or Janet Jackson, or a stand-up comedian J

Who has inspired you the most in life and why?

Having been raised in part by my grandparents, I would say that my grandmother had the most influence on my life. From her I learned the value of hard, honest work, education and commitment to one’s family. Her support and encouragement  was motivation for me to become the first member of my family to attend college and I will always carry with me her lessons of being honest and staying true to loved ones.

If you were an animal, what would you be?

I would be a hummingbird. Like all birds, hummingbirds enjoy the freedom of flight, but are small enough to explore areas larger birds aren’t able to penetrate.

Me @ Work

Meet Jessica!

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Hello! My name is Jessica Peterson. I am a second year I/O Master’s student at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I received my bachelor’s degree from DePaul University and have lived in the Chicago area for five years. I was born and raised in Southern California, but I have fallen in love with the city and will probably never leave. However, I will always be an Anaheim Angels fan!

My interests are in training and development and organizational design. I am very excited to be interning here at Monar Consulting and looking forward to blogging about my experiences. I love reading and will make most of my posts about book reviews. If you have any good books for me, related to business or otherwise, let me know!

Question Quickfire

What was your childhood nickname and why?
JJ Bobo Peterson, because the initials of my first and middle name are JJ and I LOVED the clowns at the circus, but I called them bobos instead of clowns.

What is your favorite snack to munch on in the movie theater?
The largest Icee that I can buy, but only the cherry flavor!

What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a doctor… Then I realized that blood made me nauseous.

Who has inspired you the most in your life and why?
My mom has always been my biggest inspiration. She is an incredibly strong woman and I can only hope that one day people respect me as much as they respect her.

If you were an animal what would you be?
I would be a cat. I don’t even like cats, but they do have a pretty easy life. Sleep all day, catch a few mice, and always land on their feet. I can do that!
